The Irish Pony Showjumping Team has taken Gold in the European Championships in Strzegom, Poland today Friday 16th August 2019. The team comprising; of Francis Derwin on Cul Ban Mistress, John McEntee on Little Smithe, Niamh McEvoy on Ardfry Skye, Max Wachman on Cuffesgrange Cavalidam, Tom Wachman on Ocean Des As and managed by Gary Marshall, were in spectacular form this week.
The Irish were only carrying a total of 4 faults from Thursdays opening round, which left them in a strong position lying in 4th place just outside the medals heading into today’s competition. However, with spectacular performances seeing 4 of the team produce clear rounds again in the 1st round of the final today, saw Ireland move in to the Bronze medal position ahead of the jump off.
An exciting jump-off ensued with Ireland and Britain going head to head for the Gold. The Irish Team was incredible and finished the competition on a total score of 4 faults for the 3 rounds, gaining them the Gold Medal and Crowning them the Under 16 European Pony Showjumping Champions, with Britain taking the Silver medal and France taking the Bronze. Huge congratulations to the Team and all involved.
