Lockdown is Lifting and We’re Jumping With Joy!
Well it’s official, we are moving rapidly through the phases of Lockdown as the Residents of Ireland heeded the warnings and have stayed home, while Covid-19 now seems to be in retreat.
As we all congratulate ourselves and breathe a sigh of relief, let us not become too Gung Ho, as we believe there could be nothing worse than a second wave that would send us all hurtling back home again!
So Peeps, keep your distance, wash/cleanse your hands often and stop touching your darn face;-) At least that’s what we tell ourselves every day here at Irish Sport Horse Magazine! If we stick to the guidelines for safety, as Equestrians we just may salvage what’s left of this Equestrian Summer.
Here’s what we got for you this time; our BHSI Jessica Soley talks about when and how to supplement your horse. She also shares a very comprehensive article on Orphan Foals, as we are in the middle of the Sport Horse Breeding Season, and it is important to know just what to do in this scenario.
I share some of the benefits of Polework for both you and your horse; in particular how useful it can be for your horse following injury. Also, as we are in the midst of a drought, can you believe it, Ireland in a Drought!?; I discuss some of the signs and symptoms of dehydration in your horse, and what to do if this occurs, especially in the case of Foals.
Lastly for our Equestrian Interview we hear from Clicker Training Expert and Native of Ireland, Mary Concannon. Mary shares her journey into clicker training and the benefits that it has made to her horses. Mary coaches in many parts of the world, helping people develop a deeper connection with their horses, eliminating fears and problems often in just a few days by using clicker training. She shares some of her amazing stories and why she embraced this method.
As we all start competing again, stay safe people, look out for each other, and enjoy every moment of your time with horses. Until next time,
To Your Equestrian Success,
Roma
